“Ben came from the same kampung as me: Johor Bahru, but I didn’t get the chance to met such a great Green soul until 2011 and serendipitously too at Kampung Temasek when I happened to help install a standalone solar pv power system for his hut there.
As usual, I would then always carry with me, my 2003 invention: The SK-TF (Solar Kettle-Thermos Flask).
When I showed him the SK-TF, he looked ambivalent: a little between amazement and annoyance.
He asked me, are you “Alex Kee, the Inventor of this solar device?”
I proudly owned up to it and said, “Behold, I am in the flesh!”
He then surprised me with him trademark witty response and with a twinkle in his eye, ” But you don’t like as handsome as you appeared on the Web?”
We both broke up in a loud laughter and that’s the beginning of our big bang into a meaningful and purposeful relationship in Green.
Ben has proven himself to be an innovative and resourceful inventor and always focussed on Food Security with sustainability and renewability at the doable self help perspective and always Green at the core of his approach.
Growing up in a country with lots of open space and emigrating to another country with almost the opposite set of paradigms, Ben has shown that with Creativity, it is possible for us, ordinary people but with extra ordinary passion and tenacity to think outside the box and even without the box and fly.
Over the years Ben has continuously reinvented himself and his hallmark inventions: Small space planters with efficacious green systems from rainwater harvesting, water conservation, vertical planting space optimization and systems integration.
Ben continues to amaze me and I won’t be surprised if he already has something in the works for small space planting solutions with IoT.
Ben, it is pleasure bumping into you and even greater pleasure in being a travelling companion in our journey of Green Discoveries.
